Honoring Women

from August 26th to December 26th at BEST Massage

Here’s to a strong and great Nation and the Women of it that have always been the backbone of society, making invaluable contributions to family, church, and community.

Women’s Equality Day was created in 1973 by Congress under the guidance of a NY congressional representative who first introduced the idea in 1971. The day is to honor the work first started in Seneca Falls NY (very close to my birth place) in 1848 in which the first Women Rights Convention was held. After decades of hard work and advocacy, the 19th amendment to the constitution of the United States was finally ratified in 1920, granting women the right to vote.  Since gaining that right, the voices of women have slowly but surely grown in prominence in government, workplace, and spiritual leadership. There remains much work to be done, yet, though. In Texas, some journalists and political commentaries called 2018 – the year of the women in state politics. Women made many gains, both those running under the Republican and Democratic parties.

BEST Massage offers women of all ages and backgrounds a chance to relax, refresh, and enjoy sisterhood during the ladies’ getaways that frequently happen in Fredericksburg, Texas. We love the opportunity to make a small but meaningful contribution to their mini-vacations, by giving them a second mini-vacation at our spa or by coming to offer our services at guest houses here in the Hill Country.

Our massages, facials, and wraps help melt away the stress that builds up in one’s body and spirit – the juggling of family with career and dealing with society’s current dilemmas brought about by COVID affecting schools, churches, workplace, and elder care – often all juggled by women in a household.

In honor of all the lovely spirited ladies in this nation, we are offering $10 off all of services and packages.

We always work with our customers to offer great prices anyway, never charging extra for deep tissue massage or add-ons like hot stones, cupping, or aromatherapy. At BEST, all of our core therapists have more than 25 years of experience working on bodies, easing away pain and stress and doing corrective work for fascial and muscular structure burdened by repetitive motion stress, injuries, and other physical/psycho-social trauma.

Although shied away from in public discussion, women may also have trauma-related somatic abnormalities – the body and the cells remember the harm, grief, and sadness life can bring, and we seek to turn that around with humor, care and concern. All our therapists consider massage to be a calling and a vocation of care, not just movement of the hands and physical manipulation of the body. We do believe you will feel the difference deep down inside.

To always give you something new that helps you grow and learn your way to beauty and inner-wellness …………

Here are some super aroma therapy options we would like you to consider during this Celebration of
Women. Note too, that we will begin growing and producing more medicinal plants and their therapeutic products starting this fall as we expand our organic gardens. Making magic potions just for all of you.

First, Helichrysum: Heli – Chrysum – comes from the Greek roots, Sun (helio) and Chrys (body). It’s the golden goodness and energetic forces that is given by the sun to heal us. The use of Helichrysum as a healing oil does date back to the Greek Golden Age and the period of the Pythagorean School, when the study of what we might now call the liberal arts sought to find meaning in life and human consciousness, by looking at the relationships between art, math, and the natural world.

Helichrysum is known to be a soul transforming oil. Its pungent musky odor stimulates the old reptilian part of the brain through the nose, producing calm, that can then get the higher functioning brain to cleanse normal thinking and connect with intuition. Helichrysum is an oil of choice for healing long-standing emotional wounds and empowering higher consciousness. This dates back to the Greeks – very cool stuff.

Second, Cajeput: This is made from a tree native to Australia. We like it for a lot of reasons: One of the primary reasons is, it has many of the medicinal anti-septic and anti-fungal properties of tea tree oil, without the overpowering odor (that makes some of us – like me – feel sick to our stomachs). Cajeput fights skin infections like psoriasis and other blemishes related to fungus and bacteria. Cajeput also has some great qualities for sore muscles, it is a circulatory stimulant ((increasing blood flow to any tissue generally bring in positive nutrients, and removes harmful wastes (cancer one exception)}; and an antispasmodic, that can help with muscle and arthritic pain. Finally, the oil has some strong decongestant elements in it’s mix of base molecules which can help with sinus, bronchitis, colds, and asthma.

Third, Copaiba: This tree hails from the rainforests in countries such as Brazil. It has been used for 100s of years to treat ailments amongst indigenous populations. You might say it is good for what ails you – producing a state of hale – robustness. Here we get not only the 1-2 punch, but the 1-2-3 punch from this oil. Copaiba has a light refreshing odor that it said to help with anxiety. It also aids in skin cell health and is used to reduce stretch marks and scars. Lastly, it has some amazing anti-inflammatory properties which help with pain. It is an oil that has been found to be particularly useful with lupus, rheumatism, and joint pain of all kinds. Its high beta-caryophyllene is responsible. Beta-caryophyllene is able to activate several receptors in the body, including CB2, which is usually activated most by CBD. Beta-caryophyllene has been shown to be an effective analgesic by regulating neuroinflammation and thermal hyperalgesia. It is an alternative to CBD, and/or may be used in conjunction with it.

Our Final Selection is one of the loveliest smelling essentials you may ever use – Blue Tansy: This flower is native to Morocco and some Mediterranean regions. PLEASE NOTE, that like many other medicinal plants from this part of the world, it is considered endangered (as are greats like Frankincense and Myrrh -which BEST will also try out in the USA). The flower is yellow but the oil is a deep blue on account of the high chamazulene. It is an edible in bulk that can be taken as tea.  As an oil its fragrance is calming and soothing. Like the other oils above, it can also be used for pain relief and skin conditions.

There you have it ladies, just a few choices to think about. See you soon!
